La Dependance
This spacious and comfortable three bedroom villa is located in the pretty hamlet of La Lande in the Perigord Vert region of the Dordogne. La Dependance provides a convenient base from which to explore the region's rich heritage of prehistoric cave art; Roman ruins; feudal fortresses and renaissance chateaux, and medieval churches and abbeys; amid an abundance of history and the scenic beauty of the Dronne river valley. Whilst savouring the lifestyle of rural France, you will encounter friendly, courteous locals willing to share with you the Perigordin traditions of this unspoilt region.
The roof top terrace of this home overlooks the historic Lizonne river valley. Here, you are able to dine alfresco and enjoy the fabulous rolling landscapes and myriad medieval villages that surround you. In the evenings there are often spectacular sunsets, and the summer fireworks that conclude the village fetes will light up the night sky.
Recently renovated in 2010/11 the property has had added a 2nd living room on the ground floor; a third bedroom and a 2nd bathroom. The extension opens off the main lobby with its circular staircase leading to the original loft apartment above and which also gives access to a second ground floor bedroom. Upstairs, there is another double bedroom with separate bathroom, dressing room and generous shower recess. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer downstairs where there is also a second refrigerator, and microwave.
The original loft configuration is at once dramatic, spacious and light filled, with timber beams soaring high, rough hewn and fastened in the traditional manner. The upper south facing wall is double glazed, catching the winter sun. The open plan living area divides neatly into lounge and dining areas. At one end is the well equipped kitchen and a lovely timber staircase and turret giving access to the terrace above. There is central heating on both levels if needed and there is satellite TV in both living areas.
Self catering needs can be met at the villages of St Séverin (3Km) and Verteillac (6Km) while Riberac (16Km) famous for its weekly Friday markets, has hypermarkets; specialty shops, and a vibrant café scene. At local village markets seek out their fresh grown produce and wonderful local specialities. For variety, the big markets of Perigueux; Chalais and Riberac are unsurpassable.
For the gourmet, the area is a delight, from Michelin rated restaurants to the many bar/restaurants in the villages and towns that tempt you with their surprisingly inexpensive menus featuring famous Perigordin cuisine.
