Les Roses

Les Roses is an impressive 4-5 bedroom house consisting of two separate wings built around a central kitchen. It has both a formal and an informal living area (perfect for those with children or teenagers) and an outdoor living area where you'll spend a lot of time in the warmer months. The house is ideal for two families or a large group.

Wing 1

Upstairs are two good-sized bedrooms with exposed beams, slanting ceilings and antique terracotta-tiled floors, architectural features typical of the area. One bedroom has a queen-sized bed, the other has three singles.

Downstairs is a high ceilinged living/dining room with exposed beams and a grand, open fireplace. It has a long antique dining table, sofas and CD player.  In the next room there is a small single bedroom with an adjoining toilet/laundry, also with a bar fridge.

Wing 2

The two upstairs bedrooms have exposed beams, slanting ceilings and church views. One has a queen sized bed, the other a queen sized bed and a single bed. There are two small bathrooms, one with a bath, the other a shower.

Downstairs is a lovely informal living room with huge windows opening onto the courtyard on one side and the garden on the other. The living room contains a large flat screen TV and DVD, video and CD players and a wood-burning heater.

The fully equipped kitchen sits between the two living rooms and has a stove, dishwasher, microwave and large refrigerator.

Outside is a grass terrace area with outdoor furniture and a BBQ.

Location 

La Cure is in the charming village of Ferrière Larçon which is surrounded by verdant farmland and pockets of forest. The village has a beautiful 12th century church and quaint streets like the "Rue des Caves," a street lined with cave houses built into the rock formations. La Cure's "grange" is one of the village's oldest buildings and would have been standing when Joan of Arc was in the nearby town of Loches convincing Charles VII to fight the English.

The friendly baker from the neighbouring village delivers bread and croissants to the door each morning. The charming Mr Reglan, the area's best butcher, calls twice a week in his mobile "boucherie".

But what would France be without its outdoor markets - the most enjoyable way to shop? There is one each Monday in nearby Ligueil (5 minute drive) and twice a week in the beautiful medieval town of Loches (15 minute drive). Both towns have good supermarkets too.

La Cure's owners have spent many hours exploring their part of the Loire and have plenty of 'inside knowledge' they'd like to share with their guests. They've prepared notes to help you enjoy experiences which could easily be missed in a short stay. To give a few examples:

• Restaurants - while guidebooks list the gourmet starred restaurant 10 minutes from La Cure, they don't tell you about the charming, English speaking sommelier with his encyclopaedic knowledge of wine. Nor will they mention the delicious traditional food and great music sessions at the neighbouring village's tiny "Bar de l'Union".
• Brocantes or "bric-a-brac" markets are part of French tradition, a day when the entire village turns out to sell their treasures (and trash!) and to share a few glasses of wine. We'll tell you where the closest brocantes are during your stay - or you could plan your visit for Ferrière Larçon's brocante (one of the largest in the region) and watch the annual bike race whizz past La Cure's windows.
• Walks, Picnics and Rides - the villages and countryside surrounding Ferrière Larçon are delightful. You'll be given suggestions of great walks, runs or bike rides (on La Cure's bicycles - some of which have child seats) nearby. Sunrise or (perhaps more realistically) sunset walks on the quiet country roads and paths are glorious. There's also a list of nearby picnic sites discovered by La Cure's owners - perfect for a casual lunch outdoors with a bottle (or two?) of rosé.

Many of the most beautiful chateaux of the Loire Valley such as Chenonceau, Villandry and Azay le Rideau are no more than 40 minutes from La Cure.
