About Property

Villa Agapanthe in St Saturnin les Apt, is a lovely freestanding, modern house set in a large Provencal garden complete with a glorious inground pool. Views up to St Saturnin include its famous windmill and castle ruins, whilst to the west you see the red hills of Roussillon and the setting sun across the valley.

The house is all on one level, with just a few steps up to the front and rear doors. There are three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms (one separate WC), kitchen, large open-plan dining and sitting room, glorious sunroom, entrance hall and large garage.

Throughout the whole house is central heating, which gives tremendous warmth in the winter and an endless supply of hot water year round. There is a CD stereo system, VCR/DVD and television in the living room, providing access to both French programming and CNN.

The kitchen is decorated in Provencal yellow and blue, and offers a large fridge with freezer, oven, 4-ring gas hob and dishwasher. The kitchen is fully equipped with all cooking utensils, crockery, and cutlery – everything you need to whip up a truly Provencal feast.

The main bedroom has two super-single sized beds, chest of drawers, bedside tables and lamps. The second bedroom contains a king-sized bed, built in cupboards, a chest of drawers, bedside tables and lamps. Both are beautifully decorated in pale, soothing colours. The third bedroom has a queen-sized bed, built in cupboards, a chest of drawers, bedside tables and lamps. All three bedrooms have an uninterrupted view of the gardens, and are airy and light. There are external wooden shutters and insect screens.

The first bathroom has art-deco, sparkling pink tiles with a full-sized bath, hand-held shower and hand basin opposite. The washing machine and dryer are conveniently installed in the corner cupboard. There is a large vanity unit and a ceiling-to-floor heated towel rack. A double window opens onto the pretty hillside views. The second bathroom has beige-toned tiles with shower, hand basin and WC. There is a small Provencal vanity and small window. The second WC is set between the second and third bedrooms, and has its own small hand basin and window.

The dining room offers a large table that accommodates from six to ten people, and double windows that open out to the garden complete with olive trees. In the sitting room area, there are two very large and comfortable cream sofas, facing a large rustic stone fireplace, and light spills in through double French glass doors from the sunroom next door.

The sunroom is again light and airy and has a round metal table with 6-chair setting, and an antique lit cage (wrought iron bed). The sliding glass windows give the illusion of dining amongst the treetops, with uninterrupted views to the south and the west. From this room, you reach the outdoor eating area at the foot of the stairs. There is a large white table with chairs, drink trolley, and a large navy-blue Italian (market) umbrella.

The garden has a fully programmed (and fuss free) watering system and consists of a large lawn, manicured flowerbeds, Provencal herbs and lavender, and an abundance of olive, cherry and fig trees… and of course, feature beautiful white and blue Agapanthas everywhere.

Five kilometers away from the house is the bustling market town of Apt where you can buy the freshest vegetables and produce from the surrounding farms. On Saturday, the market comes to life and people pour in from all parts of the Luberon Valley. There are many wonderful cafes where you can sit and while away many an hour under the shade of a plane tree.

Apt has supermarkets, banks and restaurants. Good bookshops where you can buy English books; newspapers and maps of the region can be found in the main pedestrian thoroughfare.

There is also an abundance of interesting food shops specializing in goat’s cheeses, glace fruit or hand-made chocolates. Sometimes, the local cinema shows a movie in English (but you have to be lucky!).

Further field, you can easily drive to the cultural cities of Avignon, Aix-en Provence (about 45 minutes) or Aries, Pont du Gard, Nimes and Orange (just over 1 hour). A real treat is to spend the day in the romantic fishing village of Cassis east of Marseille (about 1.5 – 2 hours).
